There is a great group of volunteers working at the Pantry, and we are always looking to add to our volunteer team. New volunteers are provided with orientation and mentoring.

We provide training for each of our volunteer opportunities, so you do not need any special background. Some tasks require specific skills, such as computer skills for entering records or ability to lift for unloading or arranging food in the warehouse. However, our only general requirement is a caring and positive attitude toward other volunteers and the families we serve.

Our volunteers keep the Pantry running smoothly by doing everything from bagging groceries to stocking shelves to doing administrative work. We would love to have you join our team!

Frequently Asked Questions

How often will I need to volunteer?

Many of our volunteers work 2-4 hours per week, and other volunteers work 2-4 hours once or twice a month. We also have special events 2-3 times a year, in which many community volunteers are needed. We always appreciate any dedicated volunteers who wish to give more time.

How old do I need to be to volunteer?

Children and youth are welcome to work on special projects or support services as well as at Open Volunteer Time or Open Garden Time with a parent or guardian. Youth who work without a guardian when the Pantry is open must be in 9th grade or above and have completed Volunteer Orientation.

Can I bring a group to volunteer?

Volunteer groups such as churches, college organizations, or businesses seeking volunteer opportunities at the Pantry may be accommodated on a limited basis. There are a variety of tasks that groups can help with, and we recommend working with the Volunteer Coordinator to discuss the best fit for your group. The Pantry requests a minimum of one month notice to schedule group volunteer opportunities. Volunteer opportunities may not be available at all times and all days. Contact the Volunteer Coordinator to discuss timing and opportunities.

What are some benefits to volunteering?

Volunteering not only serves our community, but serves to make yourself healthier and happier. Research shows several benefits of volunteering, including:

  1. Connecting you to others

  2. Being good for your physical and mental health

  3. Helping advance your career by learning new skills
